FG Reaffirms Commitment to Innovation, Collaboration Ahead of AFRIDEX 2026

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to inter-agency collaboration, innovation, and national development as preparations intensify for the African International Defence Exhibition (AFRIDEX) 2026.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation led by Major General Umar Alkali during a courtesy visit to his office.

Describing AFRIDEX as a significant initiative, the minister emphasised that meaningful progress in Nigeria’s defence and security architecture can only be achieved through collaboration rather than isolated efforts.

He commended the initiative as a vital platform for showcasing innovation, particularly among Nigerian youths excelling in digital and cybersecurity sectors, noting that such exposure is key to national development and global competitiveness.

Tunji-Ojo also underscored the importance of research, urging stronger connections between innovation and market opportunities to ensure that ideas translate into economic value.

He encouraged the organisers to make AFRIDEX an annual event, adding that while the maiden edition may face challenges, it would provide valuable lessons for future improvements. He further called for broader cooperation among security and intelligence agencies, stressing the need for collective progress.

Reaffirming the ministry’s support, the minister described the initiative as forward-looking, expressing confidence that it would attract international participation and boost indigenous industries.

On visa facilitation, he acknowledged ongoing improvements and recommended the creation of a dedicated support desk to ensure seamless entry for foreign participants.

Earlier, Major General Umar Alkali thanked the minister for his support and introduced AFRIDEX as a premier global defence and security exhibition scheduled to hold from October 26 to 29, 2026, at Eko Atlantic City.

The event, organised with the backing of the Federal Government and hosted by the Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, is expected to attract over 30,000 participants and 500 exhibitors from across the world.

It will feature cutting-edge innovations across land, air, maritime, space, and cyber domains, bringing together global leaders, policymakers, and industry experts.

Alkali highlighted the role of the Ministry of Interior in ensuring the success of the event, particularly in security coordination and visa processing, and formally invited the minister to participate.

The meeting ended with both parties expressing commitment to partnership and a shared vision of positioning Nigeria as a global hub for defence innovation and security solutions.
