Lagos Police Launch ‘Command Sweepers Squad’ to Tackle Crime in Ikorodu

The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a special tactical security outfit, known as the “Command Sweepers Squad,” to combat rising criminal activities in Ikorodu and adjoining communities.

The initiative, unveiled under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, followed growing concerns and complaints from residents over insecurity in parts of the Ikorodu axis.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the squad is a temporary intervention security outfit designed to strengthen security operations and restore public confidence in the affected areas.

The command disclosed that the squad comprises officers drawn from various tactical units, including the Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF and 63 PMF, alongside personnel from sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.

The statement added that the squad had been strategically stationed in Ijede to ensure swift deployment and easy access to Ikorodu and neighbouring communities for rapid response operations.

To enhance operational effectiveness, the squad has also been equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers recently donated to the command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.

Police authorities said the operatives had already been deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts to conduct intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search operations and confidence-building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements.

The Commissioner of Police assured residents that the operation would be carried out professionally and in line with the rule of law.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely information through the command’s emergency lines.
