The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has launched an investigation into allegations that some of its officials extorted commercial bus drivers along the Coastal Road.

The claims, which surfaced in a viral Facebook post, alleged that LASTMA operatives arrested bus drivers and demanded ₦100,000 before releasing their vehicles.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the agency said it was treating the allegations with utmost seriousness and does not tolerate misconduct or abuse of office.
The authority disclosed that it has commenced a thorough and impartial investigation into the claims, assuring that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action.
“LASTMA remains a disciplined and professional organisation that does not condone extortion or any form of misconduct by its personnel,” the statement said.
As part of the investigation, the agency invited the individual identified as Tosin, who made the allegation, to appear at its headquarters in Oshodi with verifiable evidence to support the claims.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and professionalism, while urging members of the public to report cases of misconduct through official channels.
LASTMA added that it remains focused on maintaining a traffic management system built on fairness, orderliness, and respect for all road users.
