The staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) have begun an indefinite strike, halting the provision of weather information for air and sea transportation.

This strike has disrupted essential weather forecasting and aviation support services nationwide, raising concerns among stakeholders about its possible effects on flight operations, agriculture, and disaster preparedness.
On Wednesday, staff members held a protest at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, informing air service operators that weather information services would not be available for their operations.
However, some members of NiMET management expressed to NTA their disappointment regarding the decision by labour unions to initiate a strike, especially considering ongoing efforts to resolve their grievances.
A senior management official at NiMET, who requested to remain anonymous, indicated that the agency is frustrated with the inflexible stance taken by the unions, pointing out that many of the contentious issues have either been settled or are currently being addressed.
Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has scheduled a high-level meeting with all relevant parties for Thursday, July 24, 2025, in an attempt to resolve the deadlock.
