Plateau Must Not Bleed Again, APC Chair Backs Tinubu’s Visit, Calls for Tough Action

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his condolence visit to Plateau State following the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.

Yilwatda described the President’s visit as a demonstration of responsive leadership, empathy, and national solidarity at a time the state is mourning the loss of innocent lives.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the APC chairman condemned the attacks in strong terms, describing them as inhuman, cowardly, and a direct assault on the peace and unity of Plateau State.

He warned that the continued cycle of violence in the state must not be treated with routine reactions, stressing the need for decisive and coordinated action to prevent future occurrences.

According to him, community leaders must be more vigilant and proactive in identifying and reporting suspicious activities, noting that many perpetrators are often embedded within or around affected communities.

“These criminals must no longer be shielded by silence or fear. They must be identified, apprehended, and made to face the full weight of the law,” he said.

Yilwatda also urged security agencies to overhaul their operational strategies, calling for the adoption of modern, intelligence-driven approaches to tackle insecurity. He advocated the deployment of advanced surveillance technologies, including artificial intelligence-powered cameras, drones, and real-time intelligence systems, to detect and neutralise threats.

He further highlighted the economic implications of insecurity, noting that Plateau State’s tourism potential and agricultural strength have been undermined by persistent violence.

“No economy can thrive where fear dominates, and no society can prosper under constant threat,” he said.

The APC chairman called for a collective approach involving traditional rulers, religious leaders, political actors, youth and women groups, and security agencies to restore peace and stability in the state.

During the visit, President Tinubu, accompanied by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, former leaders, and other stakeholders, also met with families of victims, offering condolences and assurances of government support.

Yilwatda said the visit signalled the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity in Plateau and ensuring justice for victims.

He reiterated that the lives of citizens are sacred and must be protected, insisting that those responsible for the killings must be brought to justice.

“Plateau deserves peace, healing, and protection. The state must never be allowed to bleed again,” he stated.
