Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, the President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), on Tuesday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, days after making history as the first elected female president of the association.
Badejo-Okusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), was accompanied by senior lawyers and members of her campaign team during the courtesy visit to the President.
Her meeting with Tinubu comes on the heels of her victory in Saturday’s NBA national election, where she emerged as the 33rd President of the association.
She secured 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast, to defeat her closest challengers, Lateef Akangbe, SAN, who polled 7,934 votes, and Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, who garnered 5,855 votes.
Following her election, President Tinubu congratulated Badejo-Okusanya on her historic emergence, describing her victory as a milestone for the legal profession and a triumph of merit, excellence and gender inclusion.
The meeting marks one of Badejo-Okusanya’s first official engagements with the President since her election as the NBA’s first elected female leader.
