UNIJOS Lecturers Embark on Strike Over Unpaid March Salary

Lecturers at the University of Jos have commenced an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their March 2026 salary.

Jurbe Molwus, the Chairman of the institution’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), confirmed the development in Jos on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

“We are on strike, and we are not going to work until we are paid,” Molwus said.

In a statement circulated to members, the union expressed frustration over the delay, attributing it to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

“Dear comrades, after following due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, conduct of examinations and statutory meetings as our salary for the month of March 2026 is yet to be paid despite our patience,” the statement read.

The union noted that the industrial action took immediate effect from April 8, in line with its National Executive Council resolution and branch congress decision.

It added that findings showed the university’s bursary had completed its part of the salary process, but delays from the Accountant-General’s office stalled payment.

“It seems our patience is being taken for granted by those who are determined to frustrate industrial harmony,” the statement added.

ASUU also directed members to fully comply with the strike, warning that a monitoring team would be activated to ensure adherence.

“Please ensure full compliance, as the strike monitoring team of the branch will be activated to monitor compliance. Solidarity forever,” the statement concluded.
