The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Ola Olukoyede as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Red Chamber, during Wednesday plenary, also confirmed the appointment of Muhammad Hammajoda as the Secretary of the anti-graft agency.
The confirmation is coming on the heels of controversies trailing the nomination of Olukoyede by President Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu had a week ago President Tinubu appointed the duo following the resignation of former embattled EFCC Boss, Abdulrasheed Bawa.
The appointment of Olukoyede, however, stared up criticisms as some analysts and senior lawyers said that judging that he was not an Assistant Commissioner of Police, he is not fit to lead the nation’s number one anti-graft agency.
Meanwhile, the Senate has okayed his appointment after the lawmakers screened the duo on Wednesday afternoon.
The Senate also screened and confirmed the appointment of Halima Shehu as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).
