Major General Bemgha Paul Koughna, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army, has conducted an operational assessment visit to Forward Operating Base in Kebbe Local Government, Sokoto State following renewed security threats linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group in the Area.

A statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma, says the visit was prompted by the renewed attacks on Ungushi Communities recently by terrorists.
The statement notes that the GOC has adjusted the Security Architecture in the Area to prevent further infiltration and enhance the protection of vulnerable Communities along the Sokoto-Kebbi border.
Major General Koughna has during the visit met with Community Leaders and Residents to assess the Security situation and reassure them of the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He said Troops remain fully deployed and highly alert to respond swiftly to emerging threats, stressing that terrorist elements would not be allowed to establish safe havens in the Region.
The GOC urged Residents to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities, assuring them that Security Forces are firmly on the ground.
He also appealed to Members of the Communities to cooperate with Troops by providing credible and timely information on suspicious movements and activities.
Major General Koughna emphasised that Community support remains vital in detecting, disrupting and dismantling terrorist networks before they carry out attacks.
