A motorcyclist has died in a road crash involving a sand-laden tipper truck at Ilasa Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, Lagos State.
The crash occurred at about 3:18 p.m. on Thursday and involved a tipper truck with registration number 19F 992FG and a motorcycle, according to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team stationed at Cappa was deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call and arrived about 15 minutes later.
A preliminary assessment by emergency responders indicated that the tipper driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle before it rammed into the motorcycle from behind.
The impact left an adult male passenger on the motorcycle fatally injured.
LASEMA responders, paramedics from the Lagos Response Unit, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and police personnel subsequently secured the scene and commenced emergency operations.
The victim’s remains were recovered and placed in a body bag before being handed over to family members present at the scene.
The damaged vehicles were later removed from the road and taken to Ilasamaja Police Station to support further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
LASEMA said the operation was concluded successfully and normal traffic flow was restored in the area.
Oke-Osanyintolu condoled with the deceased’s family and urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives.
