Monsuru Musa, a 33-year-old man, has been caught allegedly sitting for a promotion examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service in Abuja.

Monsuru was apprehended on Wednesday, the third day of the promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), where the examination was held.

He was reportedly arrested by security personnel deployed on the orders of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to monitor the examination.

According to a statement by the minister’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, Monsuru told security operatives that his father was sick but was on the university premises where the examination was taking place.

The suspect reportedly confessed that his father had asked him to write the promotion examination on his behalf.

When asked about his father’s age, Monsuru said his father was between 67 and 68 years old. However, Musa Mohammed told the authorities that he would turn 60 in February 2027.

Further questioning revealed that the father completed secondary school in 1982 and primary school in 1977.

Following the incident, both father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation after making statements to operatives of the State Security Service (SSS).
