The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered two locally made firearms during separate operations in Akure, the state capital.

The operations were carried out on October 13 and 19, 2026, by operatives of the ‘B’ Division Surveillance Patrol Team and the Okuta Elerinla Division, respectively.
In the first operation, police operatives conducting a stop-and-search exercise along the Idanre Road axis of Akure intercepted a 32-year-old man, identified as Oliver Bamidele, on October 13.
A search reportedly led to the recovery of a cut-to-size locally made gun concealed in his possession. The suspect was taken into custody and allegedly admitted ownership of the firearm during preliminary questioning.
The police said investigations were ongoing to establish the source of the weapon and determine its intended use. The suspect and the recovered firearm are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Akure, for further investigation.
In a separate operation on October 19, at about 9:45 a.m., operatives of the Okuta Elerinla Division intercepted two individuals riding a blue TVS motorcycle around the Madam Do Good area of Oyemekun Road, Akure, following observations that aroused suspicion.
A search reportedly led to the recovery of another cut-to-size locally made pistol. One of the individuals fled during the operation, while the other, identified as 35-year-old Levis Prince, was arrested.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing individual, while investigations would determine the source of the firearm, its intended use and any possible links to criminal activities.
Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and commitment to proactive policing.
Ohagwu reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on armed robbery and other criminal activities, assuring residents that intelligence-led policing, strategic patrols and stop-and-search operations would be sustained to tackle crime across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated this in a press release issued on behalf of the Command, reaffirming the police commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and security across Ondo State.
