Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to disqualify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election over an alleged discrepancy in his NYSC discharge certificate.
Atiku, in the suit, is challenging the authenticity and details of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate allegedly submitted by Tinubu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The plaintiffs alleged that the certificate bears the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle,” which they said differs from the President’s name, “Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
They are asking the court to determine whether the alleged discrepancy in the name on the certificate affects Tinubu’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The suit also challenges certain provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 concerning the qualification of presidential candidates.
Atiku and the other plaintiffs are seeking judicial interpretation of the alleged certificate discrepancy and its implications for Tinubu’s eligibility to participate in the 2027 presidential election.
The court is expected to determine whether the issues raised by the plaintiffs constitute grounds for disqualification under the relevant electoral and constitutional provisions.
