The management of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, has defended its hostel facilities following a viral video in which a student raised concerns about the condition of his room and toilet facilities.

According to a release signed by the Registrar, Mr Lamidi S. Tafa, the statement reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to engage with stakeholders and the media.
It further noted that students’ welfare, safety and dignity remained its top priorities, adding that it was committed to providing the public, students and parents with a factual account of the situation.
On the reported condition of the room locks, the university stated that the affected locks had been repaired before resumption but were damaged again by student residents within three weeks.
According to the management, some students allegedly used misplaced room keys to force doors open rather than report the problem to hall porters or the maintenance unit, a practice it said compromised the security of students’ belongings.
Addressing the reported self-repair of the restroom, the university said the students had contravened existing regulations governing repairs on campus. It explained that plumbing and sanitary installations in university buildings were to be handled by approved contractors for health, safety and insurance reasons.
The management also urged students with genuine grievances to use the university’s approved complaint channels, saying the procedures were designed to ensure that concerns were resolved without unnecessary controversy.
The university further appealed to bloggers, content creators and broadcasters to seek its side of the story before publishing reports on the matter.
