The husband of Anulika Nwokike, the woman arrested in Anambra State over the alleged sexual abuse and exploitation of her children, has denied having prior knowledge of his wife’s activities.
The husband, Ikechukwu Onyeanyusi, said he was shocked after being confronted with videos allegedly involving their children.
Onyeanyusi, speaking in a video circulating online, said he usually left home every morning for his business and was unaware of what was allegedly taking place.
He said he first learnt about the videos after a friend showed them to him at the market.
According to him, he returned home and confronted his wife, who allegedly told him the videos were generated using artificial intelligence.
He said the situation became clearer after the police arrived and arrested the family members.
Onyeanyusi said he was later informed at the police station that his wife had confessed to the allegations during questioning.
Expressing his distress over the incident, he said he was devastated by the alleged abuse of his children and appealed to the public to support the children as they undergo recovery.
The case has generated widespread outrage following allegations that the children were used to produce sexually explicit content for social media.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare has commenced measures to provide protection, welfare and psychological support for the affected children.
The ministry, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, also commended individuals who alerted authorities to the alleged abuse.
The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to combating child abuse and exploitation.
The ministry said efforts would continue to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children following the intervention by authorities.
