INEC Rolls Out Template For Experimental Mock Election

By Ikugbadi Oluwasegun

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may be rolling out templates for mock presidential election to experiment on the flexibility and credibility of the polling process in the buildup to the 2027 elections.

The experimental process will test voter accreditation, result transmission, and result viewing within conditions isomorphic to real Election Day. The mock election will prepare both the institution and voters for the 2027 general elections in the modern world of technology revolution of the current time.

Joash Amupitan (SAN), Chairman of INEC, at the 13th Annual International Conference of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) delivering keynote address, and represented by Sani Adam (SAN) National Commissioner, observed that the credibility of the electoral process does not depend on Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, and result sheets, but also on how Nigerians understand and trust information on electoral processes in a transition.

However, the INEC Chairman was silent on how the mock presidential election would be funded.
