The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dismissed speculation surrounding the unscheduled landing of one of its C-130 Hercules transport aircraft in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, on 8 December 2025, stressing that the action was a routine precautionary measure taken in full compliance with international aviation safety protocols.

The aircraft was en route from Lagos to Portugal for scheduled heavy maintenance when the crew detected a technical issue shortly after takeoff. In line with standard operating procedures, the pilots diverted to the nearest suitable airfield – Bobo-Dioulasso – and executed a safe landing.
All crew members are reported to be in good health and have received courteous assistance from Burkinabè authorities.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said:
“The Nigerian Air Force wishes to reassure the public that the diversion was purely precautionary and in strict adherence to global safety standards. Plans are already underway to resolve the minor technical concern and continue the ferry flight to Portugal as originally scheduled.”
The NAF expressed gratitude to the government and people of Burkina Faso for their hospitality and cooperation during the brief stopover.
The Air Force reiterated its unwavering commitment to the highest levels of operational professionalism, crew safety, and adherence to both national and international aviation regulations while carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
