The Benin Traditional Council has initiated disciplinary proceedings following an alleged breach of palace protocol involving social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja and a queen within the royal household.

In a statement signed by its Secretary, Frank Irabor, the council described the March 6, 2026 incident as a serious violation and a desecration of the palace, the sacred seat of Oba Ewuare II.
According to the council, Peller and members of his entourage allegedly gained access to the palace without proper authorisation, disrupting activities and causing embarrassment within the revered institution.
The council emphasised that the palace is not a public space for casual visits or social media content creation, but a sacred institution governed by long-standing traditions and customs.
As part of ongoing investigations, a chief linked to the incident has been placed on indefinite suspension, while a palace staff member has been detained and charged by the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly facilitating the breach.
The council also confirmed that a queen involved in the incident is facing disciplinary proceedings, which could lead to her removal from the palace in line with traditional laws.
Meanwhile, Peller has been summoned to appear before a committee of chiefs to explain his actions but has yet to comply. The council has now issued a public directive demanding his immediate appearance and a written apology.
It warned that failure to honour the summons could result in legal action, adding that law enforcement agencies have been placed on alert.
