Troops Foil Mass Abduction of School Children in Kogi, Kill One Terrorist

Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army under 2 Division, have foiled an attempted mass abduction of pupils at Iluke Community in Kabba Bunu LGA of Kogi State, stopping terrorists who disguised themselves in military uniforms.

The operation was carried out on June 10, 2026, after vigilant community members alerted troops on patrol to suspicious movement in the area. Acting on the intelligence, troops mobilized immediately to Iluke Community.

On arrival, troops found terrorists had already assembled pupils of Iluke Primary School for abduction. The soldiers engaged them without delay, forcing the criminals to abandon their mission and flee.

During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralized while several others escaped with gunshot injuries.

Sadly, before troops arrived, the attackers killed a teacher and a resident of the community. According to Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, the incident “underscores the criminal and inhumane nature of terrorists who continue to target innocent civilians.”

Hassan Abdullahi described the prompt response as one that prevented a large-scale abduction and “undoubtedly saved many lives.” He also highlighted the vigilance and professionalism of 12 Brigade troops in protecting vulnerable communities.

Troops are currently pursuing the fleeing bandits. Due to Iluke’s proximity to Kwara and Niger States, security outfits in neighbouring states have been alerted to block escape routes.

Hassan Abdullahi added that additional measures have been put in place to deny terrorists freedom of action, reassure residents, and prevent further attacks.

“The Army urged the public to keep supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to help rid the state of criminal elements,” Hassan Abdullahi stated.
