UNILAG School Protest Disrupts Teaching, Mid-Term Examination

By Our Reporter

Teaching and a mid-term examination were disrupted on Wednesday at the International School, University of Lagos (ISL), as workers protested the alleged removal of their names from the university’s payroll and the failure to implement a court judgment in their favour.

The protesting workers gathered at the school’s main gate, chanting solidarity songs and demanding the restoration of their names to the payroll, as well as the payment of outstanding allowances and other entitlements.

Although the pedestrian gate remained open throughout the protest, allowing students to enter the premises, the workers said the mid-term examination was not conducted and teaching activities were suspended.

The protesters carried placards bearing inscriptions such as “Equal Work, Equal Rights,” “ISL Tutors Deserve Their Due,” “Other UNILAG Staff Paid, ISL Tutors Still Owed,” and “Same University, Same Commitment, Same Rights.”

The protest reportedly followed the workers’ discovery that their names were missing from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) when they attempted to register on the platform.

They alleged that the omission had affected their access to the university’s payroll and called for urgent intervention to address their grievances.

More details later.
