Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 38-year-old man, Joseph Kehinde, and his 13-year-old son, John Joseph, for unlawful possession of a firearm along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road axis.

The suspects were apprehended by officers of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) on Sunday, April 5, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation at the Lafarge area. Police sources said the younger suspect was intercepted while riding in a tricycle, and a search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and a mask.
Unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the items, the teenager reportedly claimed that the firearm belonged to his father. This prompted further investigation, which led to the arrest of Joseph Kehinde shortly after.
Both suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, while the recovered items have been secured as exhibits. Police authorities said the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, reiterating the command’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal possession of firearms and other criminal activities.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining safety and security across the state and urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to aid policing efforts.
The command also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency channels.
