The Ogun State Police Command has expanded its operational structure with the commissioning of a new Area Command, two Divisional Headquarters, a Police Post, and additional operational assets to strengthen grassroots policing and rapid response across the state.

The expansion, achieved through collaboration between the state government, traditional institutions, corporate organisations, and local communities, is expected to boost intelligence gathering, operational coordination, and community engagement.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, commissioned the Ijebu Igbo Area Command and its Divisional Headquarters. The event was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Olatokunbo Joseph Talabi; the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, traditional rulers, community leaders, and other dignitaries.

The Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, HRH Oba Lawrence Jayeoba Adebajo, OJUROMI VI, was commended for mobilising community support towards the project. A patrol van was also donated to enhance operational efficiency.

The newly established Ijebu Igbo Area Command comprises five divisions — Ijebu Igbo, Ago Iwoye, Awa Ijebu, Oru Ijebu, and Atan Ijebu — aimed at improving police visibility, intelligence sharing, and coordinated responses within the axis.

Earlier, CP Ogunlowo commissioned the Afon Divisional Headquarters under the Imeko Area Command, further expanding police presence. The ceremony was attended by Oba Benjamin Olunite Oyeditan, the Onimeko of Imeko; Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewaare Akande, the Obaladi of Afon Land; community leaders; and local government officials. A patrol vehicle was also handed over to support field operations.

In another development, the Commissioner of Police commissioned the Japara Police Post in the presence of government officials and stakeholders. The facility is expected to enhance security coverage in underserved communities, improve rapid response, and strengthen community policing efforts.

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by State Chairman Venerable Samson Popoola, participated in the ceremonies, underscoring the partnership between the police and the public.

CP Ogunlowo expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government and other stakeholders for their support, urging officers to maintain professionalism and ensure the effective deployment of the new facilities and assets for the protection of lives and property. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led, and community-focused policing.
