The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against kidnapping, following the successful rescue of an abducted victim, the neutralisation of two suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of a firearm, cash, and other exhibits linked to the criminal gang.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in what the Command described as a significant success in its intelligence-driven offensive against violent crimes across the state.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State. Upon receiving the report, the Command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed tactical and intelligence resources to secure the victim’s release and apprehend the perpetrators.

The statement noted that through sustained intelligence gathering, strategic surveillance, and coordinated operational pressure mounted on the kidnappers, the victim was released unharmed on June 18, 2026.

Following the victim’s release, operatives intensified efforts to track down members of the gang responsible for the abduction. Acting on credible intelligence, the police traced the suspects to their hideout within the state.

According to the Command, the suspects opened fire on sighting the operatives in a bid to evade arrest, prompting a gun duel. During the exchange, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun from one of the neutralised suspects. Police also recovered one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and a cash sum of N2.2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.

The Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members and recover additional exhibits linked to the criminal network.

Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, said the success of the operation underscores the Command’s determination to pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals relentlessly.

Ojajuni reiterated that Ogun State would remain hostile territory for criminal elements, assuring residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, robust tactical operations, and strategic community partnerships to safeguard lives and property.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information that could assist security agencies in combating crime across the state.

The police encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency channels, including the Gateway Shield toll-free line, 0800 000 9111, and other designated emergency numbers.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.
