The Police, in Oyo State have arrested 10 suspected human parts merchants and recovered suspected human parts, including a human heart, flesh, and pieces of human skull, from their hideouts in Iseyin and Saki.
The suspects were paraded at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.
One of the suspects, Nurudeen Ganiyu, said he was initially arrested by the police and later assisted them in apprehending some of the other suspects.
He disclosed that he was introduced to the practice by a friend who told him to mix a portion of a human skull with fried eggs, claiming it would bring him fortune. According to him, the practice did not yield the expected result.
Another suspect, Abiola Nasiru, was found in possession of different human body parts. He confessed that the parts were intended for rituals believed to bring people wealth.
Nasiru said he usually obtained the human parts from Taofeeq Raheem, who also confessed to visiting cemeteries to exhume and harvest body parts from corpses, particularly about eight days after burial.
The Police intercepted a transnational organized crime syndicate, allegedly involved in trafficking stolen exotic vehicles across Nigeria’s borders for sale in foreign countries.
Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, said that the interception was followed by an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a stolen Lexus RX 350 SUV.
