Rabi’u Kwankwaso, Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw his 2027 presidential ambition and support the party’s ticket.
Kwankwaso made the appeal on Thursday when he received members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his residence in Abuja.
He urged Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to step aside and support the NDC ahead of the 2027 general election.
“Step down for us; if we win, we will take care of you,” Kwankwaso said.
The former Kano State governor’s appeal comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition politicians to forge a common front against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 polls.
Atiku remains one of the major opposition figures seeking the presidency in 2027.
Kwankwaso and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi were previously associated with the ADC before leaving the party in May, citing internal divisions and ongoing court cases.
Their movement to the NDC has added a new dimension to the opposition realignment ahead of the election.
