The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Thursday seized 228kg of cannabis sativa also known as Indian hemp.
The anti-graft agency paraded the suspect, Ayodele Osuya, who was allegedly arrested on Wednesday with the drug in the state capital.
The state Commander of the agency, Mr Kayode Raji,explained that men of the command had been on the trail of Osuya for a long time.
While Speaking at the Command headquarters, he said that the suspect concealed the Indian hemp in the booth of a Toyota Camry, weighing 228kg and worth multi-million naira.
He said, “We have been on his trail for a very long time and at a time, we also suspected that he was very suspicious and almost about to get wind he was being trailed, so we lay low.
“We used a lot of techniques so that our identity will be concealed, and at the end of the day, on the 29th of March, he was nabbed at a place called Quarter Guard Area of in Akure, Ondo State here.”
He revealed that the suspect was nabbed with “compressed cannabis, carefully stacked in the booth of the car, about 309 pieces of compressed cannabis, which weighs about 228kg, which is a huge number.”
The NDLEA boss insisted that dealing and cultivating cannabis was not good for anybody, noting that, “It is evil and we should all steer clear of it. So, it is either you get out of the state or you get out of the business.”
