Trader Killed,One arrested in Abeokuta Computer Village, Phone Market robbery

A trader has been killed at the popular phone market “Tarmarc” in Ibara Roundabout Area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, when an armed robbery gang invaded the ever-busy premises and shot him dead when trying to dislodge them of their market and money.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi said the robbers numbering about eight attacked the market also known as “TARMARC” at about 5.30pm on Wednesday shooting sporadically and carting away expensive phones.

In a swift reaction after receiving a distress call, Policemen from Ibara Divisional headquarters were mobilised to the scene by the DPO, CSP Abayomi Adeniji in collaboration with men of Amotekun Corps and one arrest was made.

It was learnt that the robbers engaged the Policemen in gun battle and took to their heels due to the superior fire power of the Police.

One of the robbers, a 32 year old Adeniji Sakiru who was chased and apprehended with the support of the market men had one double barrel locally made gun and assorted Criminal charms on him.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Commissioner of Police now AIG, Frank Mba, has directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

He equally ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining members of the gang with the view to bring them to justice.

He therefore appealed to members of the public, especially hospitals, to inform the police if anybody with gunshot injury is seen in their area.
