The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), FCT Sector Command, has secured the conviction of a motorist, Moses Omokaiye Peter, for multiple traffic offences, including using a mobile phone while driving, dangerous driving and assaulting a marshal on duty.
Peter was arraigned before His Worship Abubakar Jega, Magistrate of the FRSC Mobile Court sitting at the FCT Sector Command, Abuja, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
Following the proceedings, the court sentenced him to five days of community service imposed a N300,000 fine and suspended his driver’s licence for three months in accordance with Regulation 65 of the National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR), 2012.
The case stemmed from an incident at about 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday during a Mobile Court operation at the FCT Sector Command.
According to the FRSC case report, the motorist allegedly attempted to evade arrest by absconding with the arresting marshal, an action that resulted in charges relating to assaulting a marshal on duty and obstructing enforcement.
The Corps said the offences were considered serious because of the potential risks associated with dangerous driving and the obstruction of personnel carrying out lawful traffic enforcement duties.
Reacting to the judgment, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the court’s decision and reiterated that enforcement personnel performing their lawful duties should be treated with respect.
He warned that attempts to evade arrest, obstruct enforcement operations or assault FRSC personnel would attract appropriate legal action.
The Corps also reminded motorists that the use of mobile phones while driving and other dangerous driving practices can endanger road users and will continue to attract enforcement action.
The FRSC urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with enforcement personnel to promote safety on the nation’s roads.
