The All Progressives Congress (APC) says its estimated 13 million registered members, nationwide organisational structure and elected representatives give it a significant advantage over other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This waa disclosed in a statement by Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the party, in Abuja while receiving a pre-election fact-finding mission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), led by Victor Bockarie Foh, former Vice-President of Sierra Leone, indicates that the APC had built an extensive political structure with more than 261,000 executive members across the country.
He explained that the party’s membership database contains approximately 13 million registered members, with identification records linked to their National Identification Numbers and voter details to facilitate verification.
The APC National Chairman also disclosed that the party controls 31 of Nigeria’s 36 governorship seats, 88 of the 109 Senate seats, and 208 of the 360 seats in the House of Representatives.
The statement added that more than 7,000 aspirants contested for various positions on the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the development as an indication of the level of competition for its tickets.
Yilwatda further said the party had released and inaugurated its campaign council, commenced campaign activities, and uploaded its candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s portal.
On the electoral process, he called on INEC to adhere strictly to its published timetable, stressing that the rules must apply equally to all political parties.
The APC Chairman, however, assured the ECOWAS delegation that the party remained committed to democratic competition and would not use its numerical strength to suppress opposition parties.
Earlier, leader of the ECOWAS mission and former Vice-President of Sierra Leone, Victor Bockarie Foh, said the delegation was engaging political stakeholders to assess the country’s preparedness for credible, free and fair elections in 2027.
Foh explained that the mission’s assessment would be based on systematic observation, verification, and reliable data rather than assumptions.
He commended the APC Chairman for providing information on the party’s membership, organisational structure, and preparations for the forthcoming elections.
