Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello, Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University has mandated students to recite the institution’s anthem at the beginning of lectures.
It was learnt that the directive was sequel to the students failure to recite the anthem during an opening ceremony of the University Directorate of Skills Development Entrepreneurship Annual Exhibition.
This was made known in a memo titled: ‘Directive from the Vice Chancellor for Recitation of the Lagos State University Anthem at the Beginning of Every Classroom Lecture in the University’, issued on Tuesday, January 23, by Professor Olufunsho Abayomi Omobitan, University Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics).
The directive urged the school lecturers to lead the students to recite the LASU Anthem at the instance of every lecture.
The memo reads, “At the Opening Ceremony of the Lagos State University Directorate of Skills Development Entrepreneurship Annual Exhibition/Fair held on Wednesday, 10th January 2024, the Vice Chancellor observed with dismay that a large number of the students present for the fair could not recite the University Anthem by heart.
“Given the above, the Vice Chancellor has DIRECTED that all the Deans of the Faculties and Schools should inform all lecturers in their respective faculties/ schools to lead their students to recite the LASU Anthem at the beginning of their lectures.
“The above directive of the Vice Chancellor is conveyed for your information and prompt compliance”
