APGA Cautions Against Abandoning Ebonyi’s Governorship Rotation Arrangement

By Jelili Gbadamosi

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has warned political stakeholders in Ebonyi State against moves that could undermine the existing power rotation arrangement ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The party’s National Youth Leader, Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, said abandoning the arrangement could threaten the political stability and understanding among the state’s three senatorial zones.

Chukwu spoke in Abakaliki during an APGA-organised event where the party endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for second terms in office.

He explained that Ebonyi had maintained a rotational system of governorship since its creation, adding that the arrangement had promoted fairness, political balance and peaceful coexistence among the senatorial districts.

The APGA chieftain particularly urged political leaders and stakeholders from Ebonyi South to protect the arrangement, arguing that the zone stood to benefit from its continued implementation.

He warned that supporting moves capable of disrupting the existing understanding could create divisions among political allies and communities in the state.

Chukwu also announced that APGA had constituted a campaign committee to mobilise support for the re-election of Tinubu and Nwifuru in 2027.

He described Nwifuru as the appropriate candidate for the current political period and called on youths across the state to support his second-term ambition.

According to him, the party’s position is rooted in fairness, equity and justice, which he said should guide political participation and leadership succession in Ebonyi.

He added that although other governorship aspirants might have their individual merits, the existing political arrangement should be respected.
