Tension As Thugs Reportedly Attack Peter Obi’s Convoy in Calabar

By Jelili Gbadamosi

Tension reportedly erupted in Calabar, Cross River State, on Wednesday after suspected thugs allegedly attacked the campaign convoy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The incident was disclosed by Esther Umoh, a media aide to the former Anambra State governor, in a social media post.

Raising the alarm, Umoh alleged that some thugs were attempting to attack the convoy while Obi and his entourage were in the state.

“Thugs are trying to attack our convoy,” she wrote.

The reported incident occurred shortly after Obi arrived in Calabar alongside his wife, Margaret, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of a scheduled town hall meeting.

The alleged attack has raised concerns over the safety of political campaign activities, particularly as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also comes nearly two months after a similar incident involving Obi’s convoy in Benue State, where suspected thugs reportedly blocked Boko Road near the Air Force Base in an attempt to prevent his entry into the state.

Further details surrounding Wednesday’s incident were still emerging as of the time of filing this report.
