The National Judicial Council (NJC) has suspended three judicial officers for one year without pay over misconduct.
The decision was taken at the Council’s 112th meeting in Abuja.
Those suspended are Justice Hannatu Mohammed Kabir of the Nasarawa State High Court, Grand Kadi Mohammed Sani Salihu of the Jigawa State Sharia Court of Appeal, and Justice Sobere Biambo of the Rivers State High Court.
The Council also barred Justice Kabir from elevation for three years, and placed a similar three-year ban on elevation on Justice Biambo for issuing bench warrants and imposing fines on litigants in a civil matter without following due process.
In addition, the NJC issued warning letters to three judicial officers and cautioned eight others.
The Council directed the Imo State Judicial Service Commission to include Justice Ijeoma Agugua, Acting Chief Judge, among candidates to be interviewed for the substantive Chief Judge position.
It also recommended 28 candidates for appointment as judicial officers.
