The Police Force has refuted reports that its Inspector-General imposed a strict curfew starting at 4 p.m. for the upcoming nationwide protests.
In a statement issued on Monday, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, described the report (not from Sparklight News) as entirely false and mischievous.
Understandably, some Nigerians were gearing up to hold a planned 10-day-long protest to voice their concerns over the current economic hardship in the country.
The protest was slated to hold between August 1 to 10 across the states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The Police, however, stated that it has not declared any curfew against the planned protest.
“Additionally, it is pertinent to state that such information would have been communicated via the official Nigeria Police Force platforms were it true.
“The false publication suggesting otherwise is a product of the authors’ imaginations and does not represent the position of the Nigeria Police. We urge all media outlets and the general public to disregard this misinformation and rely on official statements from the Nigeria Police Force or other authorized government agencies,” the statement concluded.
