The Nigeria Police Force has arrested five suspects in connection with the armed robbery of a mobile phone and accessories dealer in Ogun State, during which goods valued at approximately ₦100 million were reportedly carted away.
The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) following a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police by Sanniphil Company over the robbery incident. Acting on the petition, the STS commenced a discreet investigation on August 10, 2026, which led to the arrest of the suspects in Ogun State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on August 5, at about 7:00 p.m., the suspects allegedly attacked a company vehicle transporting mobile phones and accessories from Lagos to Onitsha and stole the consignment.
The suspects arrested were identified as Okori Joyus, 23; Yetunde Lasisi, 53; Usen Samuel, 20; Usen Wisdom, 25; and Quadri Oluwadare, 56.
Police said 81 brand-new smartphones and 196 chargers were recovered from the suspects and secured as exhibits.
The Force said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who are currently at large and recover the remaining stolen property.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting businesses, citizens and property from violent crime across the country.
