APC Chieftain Adeseun Resigns Ogbomoso Title Amid Rift with Soun

Former senator, Ayoade Adeseun,a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has formally resigned his title as Mayegun of Ogbomosoland following a dispute with the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye.

Adeseun announced his resignation on Sunday during a press conference held in the Onipanu community of Ogbomoso, stating that there was no need for the monarch to reverse his earlier suspension.

The former lawmaker, who represented Oyo Central Senatorial District between 2011 and 2015, attributed his decision to what he described as high-handedness on the part of the monarch. He also dismissed the possibility of reconciliation, noting that he was unwilling to engage in further dialogue with the Soun.

The development follows the monarch’s decision on March 23, 2026, to suspend Adeseun indefinitely over alleged misconduct. The suspension, conveyed in a letter signed by palace secretary Toyin Ajamu, cited insubordination, persistent disregard for authority, and actions considered disrespectful to the traditional institution.

Responding, Adeseun criticised the leadership style of the Soun, accusing him of introducing divisive policies capable of undermining the long-standing unity of Ogbomoso.

He particularly raised concerns over what he described as attempts to create religious divisions in the community, stressing that Christians and Muslims in Ogbomosoland had coexisted peacefully prior to the monarch’s ascension.

Adeseun, who identified himself as a Muslim with a Christian spouse, said religious differences had never been a source of conflict in his family or among the people of Ogbomoso.

He also referenced the ongoing dispute involving the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, urging the monarch to allow the court to determine the matter rather than intervening.

According to him, adherence to the rule of law remains essential in preserving peace and stability within the community.
