The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered fresh details in an ongoing criminal investigation after two suspects arrested in Ijebu-Ode were linked to a kidnapping and murder case in neighbouring Edo State.

The suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were initially apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service. Subsequent intelligence-led investigations by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit revealed their alleged involvement in a kidnapping and murder incident reported in the Okada area of Edo State.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, preliminary findings indicate that the duo are members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the crime under investigation.
During the course of the investigation, police operatives recovered a pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects. The recovered items have been documented and taken into custody as exhibits to support further investigations.
The Command noted that the offences being investigated occurred outside Ogun State and disclosed that the suspects, alongside all recovered exhibits, would be transferred to the Edo State Police Command, which has primary jurisdiction over the case, for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Commending the operatives involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised their professionalism, diligence and intelligence-gathering efforts, which led to the identification of the suspects and the recovery of critical evidence.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to preventing criminal elements from using Ogun State as a safe haven or transit point for unlawful activities.
He also assured residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing strategies, proactive security measures and inter-state collaboration to enhance public safety and strengthen security across the state.
The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in combating crime and criminality.
