The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of prominent businesswoman, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following an intensive investigation that combined intelligence gathering, technical tracking, and forensic analysis.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the breakthrough during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

According to the police, the gruesome incident came to light on June 21, 2026, when a report was received at the Owode-Egba Police Station regarding suspicious circumstances at the residence of the deceased. Upon arrival, detectives discovered the lifeless body of 38-year-old security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, inside the security house, while Madam Oyesiku was found in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV had been stolen from the premises, prompting detectives to launch a full-scale investigation into what was suspected to be a case of robbery and murder.

The police said the missing vehicle was successfully traced and recovered on June 22 through intelligence-led operations and technical tracking. Although the ignition key and number plates had been removed, detectives found the vehicle’s registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, enabling investigators to positively identify it as belonging to the deceased.

A major breakthrough in the investigation came from a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the crime scene. The note was subjected to forensic examination, generating crucial leads that assisted detectives in identifying and tracking the suspects.

The principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer. Subsequent operations led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.

CP Ojajuni revealed that during interrogation, the principal suspect confessed to participating in the murder and admitted recruiting the two other suspects to carry out the attack.

According to his statement, he planned the crime after developing grievances against Madam Oyesiku during the period he worked as a security guard in her employment. He reportedly told investigators that the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson.”

Investigators said the suspects carried out the attack on June 20, 2026. They allegedly overpowered Pelumi Adetayo and used him to gain access to the residence before attacking Madam Oyesiku. The security guard was subsequently killed, and the suspects fled with the victim’s vehicle.

Further searches conducted at locations linked to the suspects led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen, and other items believed to be connected to the crime.

The Commissioner of Police noted that while the suspects have made confessional statements and substantial evidence has been recovered, investigations remain ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure diligent prosecution.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and bringing all those connected with the heinous crime to account under the law.

“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” the Commissioner stated.
