Operatives of the Ewekoro Division of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a robbery operation at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro, arresting two suspects and recovering stolen properties, including 11 assorted iPhones and an HP laptop.
The incident occurred at about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026, following an anonymous distress call reporting that an armed gang was robbing students at a hostel in the community.
Upon receiving the information, operatives of the Ewekoro Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, promptly mobilised to the scene.
According to the Command, the suspects, upon sighting the police operatives, abandoned their loot in a school bag and attempted to flee. The police team, however, pursued them and apprehended two of the suspects identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun.
A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of 11 assorted iPhones, one HP laptop and various items of clothing. The victims of the robbery have reportedly identified the recovered properties as belonging to them.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang allegedly forced one of the victims to transfer N200,000 to an account during the robbery.
The Command said detectives had visited the crime scene, documented the evidence of forced entry and secured the recovered exhibits.
It added that search warrants executed at the residences of the suspects yielded no further incriminating items, while the suspects and recovered properties are being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the police said active operations are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang and identify the owner of the beneficiary account.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commended the Ewekoro operatives for their vigilance and timely response.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to public safety and assured students and residents of the police’s resolve to protect communities across the state from criminal elements.
