Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, the European Union Support for Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) is urging stakeholders to provide safeguards for enhanced credibility of the electoral process.
In its recent report on the just-concluded party primaries, the EU-SDGN recommends increased transparency around nomination of candidates, publication of party registers and primary election results, as well as strengthening certainty around ballot access.
It also called for clearer information on legal disputes and enhanced inclusivity of women, youth and persons with disabilities.
The programme equally recommends stronger internal party democracy, better oversight of political finance and more credible membership systems.
The EU-SDGN is an EU-funded programme that supports INEC, political parties, civil society, the National Assembly and the judiciary to strengthen democracy and electoral credibility in Nigeria.
