The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), said Saturday that the new drug test policy for schools will help reduce substance abuse, particularly among youths aiming for tertiary education.

Marwa made the remarks while receiving Taraba State University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Bako, who sought partnership with the NDLEA to combat drug abuse. He emphasized that collaboration with schools and state governments is key to tackling substance abuse among young people.
He explained that the policy mandates compulsory and random drug tests for students, noting it is a preventive, not punitive, measure to promote youth development, security, and national productivity under President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
Marwa also commended Taraba State University for establishing a Directorate of Narcotics and Drug Abuse Prohibition and pledged NDLEA support through training and collaboration. Prof. Bako praised the agency’s professionalism and stressed that effective drug control requires cooperation between law enforcement, academia, and society.
