The Delta State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Matthew Oghene as the state’s new Auditor-General, charging him to uphold transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.
Oghene’s confirmation followed his screening by the lawmakers on Tuesday after Governor Sheriff Oborevwori forwarded his nomination to the Assembly on September 2.
The confirmation was initiated through a motion moved by Charles Emetulu, representing Ndokwa West Constituency, and seconded by Blessing Achoja of Ethiope West Constituency.
The motion received unanimous support from the lawmakers following a voice vote conducted by the Speaker, Dennis Guwor.
Guwor congratulated Oghene on his confirmation and urged him to justify the confidence placed in him by the governor and the Assembly.
The Speaker charged the new Auditor-General to carry out his responsibilities with integrity, professionalism and a strong commitment to accountability.
He also urged Oghene to ensure that transparency remains central to the auditing of government finances and the management of public resources in the state.
The confirmation formally clears the way for Oghene to assume the responsibilities of Auditor-General and oversee the auditing of the state’s public accounts.
