Protesters marked Democracy Day on Friday, June 12, 2026, with a march from Ikeja through Ojota to Maryland, calling for economic relief, improved security, and deeper democratic reforms.

The protest kicked off at about 8:00 a.m. at the Ikeja Underbridge, with civil society groups, labour unions, students, and activists moving through Ojota before terminating at Maryland.

Protesters carried placards that read “Tinubu has failed,” “No Democracy without security,” “Free all Captives, our children are our future,” “Democracy Must Be Felt in the Pocket,” and “End Insecurity Now.”

Another group of protesters supporting the government also joined the procession, marching alongside the anti-government protesters along the same route.

Security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force and Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps were deployed along the route to monitor the procession and prevent hijack by hoodlums.
