Prominent Nigerians and members of the international community gathered in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to celebrate former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo on the occasion of his 89th birthday.

The colourful event was held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, attracting members of the diplomatic corps, state governors, captains of industry, academics, clerics and other distinguished personalities from across the country.

The celebration featured a series of intellectual lectures delivered by renowned scholars who reflected on the enduring legacy, leadership style and national contributions of the elder statesman.

One of the major highlights of the event was the presentation of a book titled “Olusegun Obasanjo: The Legend, The Watchman and His Legacy,” written by Patrick E. James , which chronicles the life, achievements, and influence of the former Nigerian leader.

The occasion was further enlivened by a vibrant musical performance from the Ogun State band of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), whose performance added colour and excitement to the celebration.

Also in attendance was the Ogun State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Nasamu, alongside other officials of the scheme.

Observers noted that the participation of the NYSC band at the high-profile event once again underscored the relevance and contributions of the National Youth Service Corps to Nigeria’s socio-cultural and national life.
