Lagos Police Withdraw Taskforce from Traffic Control Duties

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from traffic control and enforcement duties across the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the directive was issued by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, as part of ongoing efforts to streamline traffic management and enhance professionalism, accountability, and operational clarity.

According to the Command, while the Taskforce has been relieved of traffic-related responsibilities, all its other statutory duties and operational mandates remain fully in effect.

The police also clarified that the Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit is not the only taskforce operating within Lagos State. Residents and motorists were therefore advised to verify the identity of personnel and agencies before making allegations, particularly in matters relating to traffic enforcement.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while ensuring that all operations within the state are conducted in line with the law and best practices.

Members of the public were urged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with all legitimate security agencies.
