Education: FG Reaffirms Commitment to Teachers’ Welfare

The federal government has reaffirmed commitment to enhancing teachers’ welfare and promoting collaboration among educators to strengthen learning outcomes nationwide. The Minister of Education, Dr. Moruf Tunji Alausa made the reaffirmation during the grand finale of the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration and the Presentation of Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards in Abuja.

Dr. Alausa said the commemoration themed: Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession, aims to recognize teachers’ vital role in national development as it aligns with national education reform agenda and the global initiative championed by UNESCO, ILO, UNICEF and Education International.

The minister highlighted pivotal role of teachers’ as bedrock of human capital development and nation-building, emphasizing that rewarding their efforts was an investment in quality education, student achievement, and national progress. Speaking earlier, President, National Union of Teachers, Comrade Audu Amba said the 2025 world teachers’ day theme underscores the transformative potential of collaboration for teachers, schools and education system.

He expressed concern over poor implementation of approved incentives for teachers, urging both the Federal and State Governments to ensure full implementation to promote teachers’ effectiveness and quality learning outcomes in the school system. NUT Awards were given to deserving state governors, teachers and schools across the country. The 2025 world teachers’ day grand finale featured cultural display and march-past from teachers across the 36 state of the federation.
