Tension erupted at a polling unit in Osogbo, Osun State, after armed men reportedly disrupted the counting of votes and carted away some ballot papers.
The incident occurred at Polling Unit 1, Ward 2, in the Ogo-Oluwa, Golf Junction area of the state capital, shortly after voting had ended.
According to eyewitnesses, about eight masked men arrived at the polling unit and allegedly fired shots into the air, causing voters and other election officials to flee.
Security personnel attached to the polling unit reportedly secured some of the election materials, while the attackers allegedly escaped with some ballot papers.
An eyewitness who spoke to DAILY POST alleged that the attackers were affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that the incident was linked to the anticipated outcome of the election at the polling unit.
However, the allegation could not be independently verified at the time of filing the report.
The Presiding Officer at the polling unit explained that the delay in counting followed protests by voters who arrived late and insisted on casting their ballots.
The incident disrupted what had initially been described as a peaceful voting process in the area, while security personnel were deployed to contain the situation.
