IGP Olatunji Disu, Inspector-General of Police, has ordered a comprehensive audit of arms and ammunition across all commands and formations of the Nigeria Police Force.

The directive was issued during an emergency conference with Commissioners of Police and members of the press at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre in Abuja.
According to the IGP, the nationwide audit is aimed at strengthening accountability, identifying operational gaps, preventing misuse of police assets, and enhancing the operational readiness of the Force.
Disu stressed that the exercise goes beyond routine administrative procedures, describing it as a critical institutional measure to ensure that all arms and ammunition are properly documented, secured, and deployed in line with operational standards and national security objectives.
He directed all Commissioners of Police to ensure that the audit process is thorough, transparent, and professionally documented, with detailed reports to be submitted to the Force Headquarters within the stipulated timeframe.
The IGP reiterated the Force’s commitment to ongoing institutional reforms anchored on accountability, professionalism, transparency, and effective internal control systems.
The Nigeria Police Force assured Nigerians that the reforms being implemented under the current leadership are geared towards building a more disciplined, efficient, and accountable institution capable of addressing evolving security challenges across the country.
