Ondo Police Arrest, Arraign Woman Over Alleged Assault and Wounding of Husband in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested and arraigned a woman, identified as Olatunde Mary, over the alleged assault and wounding of her husband during a domestic dispute in Akure, the state capital.

The Command said the suspect, a resident of Ilado II along Igbatoro Road, Akure, was prosecuted following investigations into an incident that allegedly left her husband, Olatunde Julius, with a serious injury.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, the case was reported to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit at the Command Headquarters in Akure on June 3, 2026.

Police detectives immediately commenced investigations upon receiving the complaint.

Preliminary findings revealed that the incident occurred on June 2, 2026, at about 2:30 p.m. during a domestic altercation between the couple. During the dispute, the suspect allegedly assaulted her husband and inflicted a deep cut on his left hand with a cutlass, resulting in severe bodily injury.

The victim was reportedly rushed for medical treatment, where his injuries were assessed and documented.

Investigators subsequently obtained statements from both parties and gathered evidence related to the case. Following the conclusion of the investigation, police authorities said a prima facie case was established against the suspect, leading to her arrest and arraignment before a court of competent jurisdiction.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Felix Ohagwu, reiterated the command’s commitment to combating all forms of domestic violence and ensuring that offenders are held accountable irrespective of gender, social status, or relationship with the victim.

The command described domestic violence as a serious threat to the safety, dignity, and well-being of individuals and stressed the importance of reporting such incidents promptly.

Police authorities urged members of the public to report cases of domestic violence, abuse, and other gender-related offences to the nearest police station or the Gender-Based Violence Unit for immediate intervention and legal action.

The Commissioner of Police further assured residents that the command would continue to uphold justice, protect vulnerable persons, and ensure that all reported cases are professionally investigated and diligently prosecuted in accordance with the law.
