The Nigerian Army has reinforced security operations in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State with the deployment of 178 personnel to boost its response to emerging threats in the area.
The troops, drawn from the 236 Tank Battalion, were deployed to the Headquarters of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), at about 4:40pm on September 25, 2026.
The deployment followed the Army’s ongoing restructuring of its operations aimed at strengthening its presence in areas facing security challenges.
The first batch of personnel comprised two groups of 89 soldiers each and was led by the Commanding Officer of the 236 Tank Battalion, Lt. Col. H.O. Obire.
Upon arrival, the troops were received by the Commander, Sector 8 OPEP, before commencing familiarisation with the sector’s Area of Responsibility and operational duties.
The reinforcement comes against the backdrop of renewed security concerns in Mangu and surrounding communities, where attacks, killings, destruction of livestock and reprisal incidents have been reported in recent weeks.
Security sources said the additional personnel would enable the sector to increase its presence in vulnerable locations and improve its ability to respond to emerging threats.
The troops are also expected to collaborate with other security and emergency response agencies operating in the area to strengthen protection for residents and help prevent further attacks.
The latest deployment is part of efforts to maintain security across communities under Sector 8’s Area of Responsibility as authorities respond to the prevailing security situation in the area.
